Declan Rice shares his reaction on Twitter after Genk 2-2 West Ham

West Ham moved into the knockout stages of the Europa League after earning a 2-2 draw against Genk on Thursday night.

In David Moyes’ 1,000th match as a manager, the Hammers showed enough character to come from behind to secure a 2-1 lead. However, a late Tomas Soucek own goal ended West Ham’s perfect start in the competition.

Said Benrahma scored twice in the second half to earn a crucial point for the visitors.

West Ham

Declan Rice has shared his reaction on Twitter after the game, admitted it wasn’t good enough to draw.

He wrote: “Frustrating not to get the win tonight, away support was incredible! We go again Sunday [With a Hammers sign in the end].”

West Ham now have 10 points from four games – six clear of Genk with two games left – and look set to go through as Group H winners.

The celebration could have been better had they held onto their lead. Nevertheless, it’s a fantastic achievement and we are still undefeated in this competition.

Mentality

The message from Rice sums up the current mentality in the squad.

There’s a hunger in the side for winning every game, and even a draw away from home in a European game seems ‘frustrating’ now. In a way, it is really encouraging to see the belief in the squad.

West Ham

West Ham started sluggishly in the first half, and they were punished. But they showed a strong mentality after the break.

Rice has hailed the West Ham fans for their support, but there were disturbing reports of some fans clashing with the home supporters. They were ejected from the stadium.

It wasn’t a great night, but the most important thing is we have qualified for the next round, and we have a good chance of topping the group as well.

The focus now shifts back to the Premier League. The Hammers face Liverpool, and if we can beat them, we’ll jump to third in the league.
