Decision to disallow West Ham equaliser v Chelsea ‘marginal’ – David Preece
Former Luton goalkeeper David Preece believes that the decision to disallow West Ham United’s equalising goal against Chelsea was “marginal”.
The Hammers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in controversial circumstances at Stamford Bridge on Saturday where Maxwel Cornet’s goal was disallowed for an apparent Jarrod Bowen foul on goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
In a column for Daily Mail, the 46-year-old stated that the decision was a tricky one to call as Jarrod Bowen did not do enough to avoid contact with the Chelsea goalkeeper.

“I’ll be honest, though, I think the decision to disallow West Ham’s equaliser is marginal,” he wrote.
“Jarrod Bowen doesn’t do everything to avoid contact with Edouard Mendy and does leave a trailing leg so you can say that may constitute a foul in the eyes of a referee.”
Heartbreaking
West Ham would’ve entered the contest on Saturday hoping to get the better of the Blues who were coming off the back of suffering a defeat against Southampton in their previous outing.
However, a defeat in such a manner would definitely impact the overall morale of the players and the fans going into the next round of games.

David Moyes must ensure that his players will look at the positive side of things as the Hammers remained extremely competitive throughout and should’ve had at least a point on the night.
The fans will be hoping that the players will build on their performances against two top-four contenders–Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur–in the last two matches and produce a much better display in the matches to come.
Next up for the Irons will be Ukrainian club FCSB in the UEFA Conference League and Moyes will be eager to start the competition on a high after an impressive run last season.
