David Moyes stance on West Ham United return shared amid Julen Lopetegui exit speculation

David Moyes would snub a return to West Ham United if Julen Lopetegui was sacked, according to Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein.

The Hammers boss has come in for some early criticism at the London Stadium, with pressure only mounting further after the Irons’ 3-0 thrashing against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (2 November).

While results have to improve for the former Real Madrid manager to keep his job [The Times, 3 November], talkSPORT host Goldstein and pundit Bent don’t believe Moyes would be interested in having a third stint in East London.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (4 November, 17:39) Darren Bent said: “I do wonder how long he (Lopetegui) has got left because of West Ham fans, someone’s put Moyes back.”

Goldstein replied: “He won’t go back there David Moyes.”

Bent responded: “No, why would you?”

Will West Ham sack Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium?

While it is fair to suggest that Lopetegui wasn’t the right person to replace Moyes at the London Stadium, that doesn’t mean that the Hammers were wrong to part with the Scotsman at the end of last season.

Results had been poor under the former Manchester United man for a while and although people will tend to remember the successful times, it did feel as though the Moyes era in East London had run its course.

Of course, if the Hammers were in genuine relegation trouble and dropping into the championship was a genuine possibility, they could do a lot worse than offering the Scotsman a short-term deal to try and keep them up.

But even then, there is no guarantee he would be at all interested. He may well feel that he has done all he can as West Ham boss and if that is the case, Goldstein and Bent’s prediction could well prove to be right.

Hopefully, Lopetegui manages to turn things around and kickstart a new era at the London Stadium.
