David Moyes sack verdict at West Ham United as fans called out at London Stadium

Jonathan Spector has said that David Moyes’ time in charge “is probably up”, but did hit out at supporters for their short-term memories.

The ex-USA international was speaking to DAZN and believed that while he admires the job Moyes has done at West Ham, the time is right for him to depart the London Stadium.

West Ham have just three games left to secure a European spot this season, and Spector admitted that the Scot is just not right for the club anymore.

Spector told DAZN: “If you look over the last 20 games, it’s not great, and it seems now that his position is untenable.

“You can criticise how it has all been handled, but it seems his time at the club is probably up, I think it’s time to move on.”

He did praise Moyes however, adding; “Supporters have short-term memories. What the club did last year was incredible and I loved following it.

“He did a fantastic job, and whilst it does seem as though his time is up, I still think Moyes is a fantastic manager, just maybe not for West Ham anymore.”

West Ham hunt top-drawer names as Moyes replacement

West Ham are yet to announce whether Moyes will be leaving the club or not when his contract comes to an end this June, but have made no secret of sounding out the Scotsman’s successor at the London Stadium.

They’re aiming high too, courting several big names from across the continent to fill their seemingly inevitable managerial vacancy.

Just last week, the club held talks with Sporting Lisbon boss Rúben Amorim, whose fellow Portuguese Paulo Fonseca is also someone who West Ham appear to be taking a significant interest in.

Furthermore, former treble-winning Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick was recently spotted attending a match at the London Stadium, and it has also been reported that West Ham are stepping up their interest in a manager with Premier League experience: ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

Whichever direction the club turns in this summer, Spector is correct when he says that regardless of how his tenure comes to an end, Moyes will leave a successful legacy, having taken the club to heights they hardly could’ve dreamt of when he first arrived amidst a relegation battle back in 2017.
