David Moyes makes decision on exit-linked West Ham player who impressed in pre season – report
Conor Coventry has been told that David Moyes wants him to stay at West Ham for the time being, according to ExWHUemployee.
The 21-year-old impressed for the Hammers in pre-season, but there was no clarity as to whether he was expected to stay or be loaned out this summer.
He was subject to interest from a host of EFL clubs this summer [ExWHUemployee], but it seems that he’s likely to stay on as a squad player.

In his recent update on Patreon, the reliable Hammers insider wrote, “Conor Coventry has been told that the manager wants him to stay around for the time being, having really impressed in pre season and getting rave reviews from fans and teammates.”
Fantastic
We’re unlikely to sign a midfielder this summer as we’re prioritising a striker as well as a centre-back.
Last season, given the number of injuries we endured, a number of players were deployed out of position in one of the two midfield positions which affected the balance of the team.
Having a player like Coventry, who looks like he’s ready to play first-team football for West Ham, will be a huge plus and it’s nice to see Moyes willing to give him the chance to prove himself.

He is not going to be a regular starter, but could come on in the latter stages of games to help us see out a particular result.
Coventry is a tidy passer and a tireless runner. We will certainly benefit a great deal from having him add to our numbers in reserve.
Who knows, in a couple of seasons, he may be ready to kick on a few steps further and become a regular for us.
