Dael Fry unlikely to turn down January move to West Ham

Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry may reportedly find it hard to turn down a move to West Ham amid their interest in signing him.

Recently, Football League World reported that the Hammers are keen on signing him in January amid an injury to Angelo Ogbonna.

The same media outlet has now reported that Boro will be hoping that the Hammers don’t come along as the 24-year-old may be tempted to move to the London Stadium.

Manager Chris Wilder also has tipped him to succeed in the Premier League.

He said, “Dael’s got all the qualities I want. Can Dael play at the top of this division? Without a shadow of a doubt. Can he play in the top division? Yes.

“But we’ll all think that. I’ll think I can manage in the top division – it’s up to the players to have that ambition and then prove it.”

Good player

Ogbonna’s season-long absence has made it imperative for the Hammers to enter the market for a centre-back in January.

In the win against Chelsea on Saturday, Kurt Zouma also sustained an injury, although the severity of that is still unknown.

Leaving only Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as the two options is not something that David Moyes would want.

He certainly would be getting after the owners to sanction a move for a centre-back in the winter, and Fry may be a cost-efficient option that’s worth considering.

In November 2021, Teeside Live’s Boro Editor waxed lyrical of the Englishman’s “magnificent” form.

At 24, he’s probably at the right time in his career to push for a move to the Premier League and we believe that he would be an ideal signing for the Hammers.
