West Ham could turn to Aji Alese amid Kurt Zouma and Ben Johnson injuries

West Ham could turn to defender Aji Alese, 20, given their major injury woes, according to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas.

The Hammers’ injury crisis worsened during the win over Chelsea on Saturday, with Kurt Zouma and Ben Johnson both being unable to continue the game.

Angelo Ogbonna has already been ruled out for the season and should Zouma miss the next game, West Ham will have only Issa Diop and Craig Dawson available.

After the 3-2 win over Chelsea, Thomas wrote on his Q&A post, “Hopefully Aji Alese gets a chance before the January transfer window. He scored a brilliant goal against Swansea U23s.”

Crisis mode

The Hammers are in a bit of an injury crisis at the moment and it could be difficult to sustain until January.

There hasn’t been a definitive update on Zouma’s situation, but should he be ruled out for a number of weeks, it becomes a big problem.

Diop’s not the best replacement and he was far from impressive in the 3-2 win against Chelsea recently.

Moyes may turn to 20-year-old Alese, who has done exceptionally well for the Under-23s and may be ready for his step up to the big stage.

It would be wise to call up to training with the senior team, if he isn’t doing it already as the Hammers will be needing numbers to sort this mess out.

Hopefully, Zouma’s injury is nothing serious and he’s back in time for next weekend.
