Club sources share fresh West Ham United manager update amid David Moyes sack
West Ham United have not held any talks with Julen Lopetegui about taking over from David Moyes this summer, according to West Ham Football.
Writing on their personal X account (24 April), the news outlet report that club sources are insisting the manager is not one step away from taking over despite reports in the Italian media.
David Moyes is expected to leave this summer when his contract expires, with several candidates mooted as being options for David Sullivan to replace him including Lopetegui, Marco Silva and Paulo Fonseca.
“Club sources insist Julen Lopetegui is not one step away from being appointed West Ham manager this summer as claimed by the Italian media and say there have been no talks with the former Real Madrid manager,” they wrote.
“Lopetegui’s assistant manager Edu Rubio does have a West Ham connection having been an assistant manager under Paul Konchesky at West Ham women in 2022 before joining Lopetegui at Wolves.”
Mixed messages add uncertainty to West Ham United future
There has been so much uncertainty surround the Hammers in recent times because nobody has had any clarity around what the future holds.
The club have been adamant that no final decision will be made on Moyes’ future until the season is over, but it seems inevitable now that the two parties will go their separate ways.
But with so much speculation around who could replace him, and with a lot of it playing out in public, it’s only going to add more instability to the team for the final few games of the season.
There are mixed messages coming out from across Europe about whether the board will appoint certain people, but it’s clear that a final decision on Moyes’ replacement hasn’t been made yet even if the decision to let him go has been.
The club need to come to a final decision quickly one way or another, so there is clarity for the fans and everyone involved.
In other West Ham news, the club have scouted this “goal God” more than once ahead of a potential summer transfer.
