Cesc Fabregas shares what he told West Ham-supporting friends about David Moyes

Cesc Fabregas shared what he told his West Ham-supporting friends about David Moyes after leaping to the defence of the under-fire Hammers boss.

Fabregas questioned why West Ham fans “attack” Moyes given his impact at the London Stadium, and wondered if it would be a wise decision to part ways with the Scotsman.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder was speaking on the Planet Premier League podcast, and wondered where “the line” was between getting the results that Moyes has and a different style of football.

Fabregas said: “I have a couple of friends that are big, big West Ham supporters and sometimes I ask the question, ‘Why do you guys attack David Moyes so much when he’s getting the right results?’

“Last year they won a European cup, they were fighting for Europe up until not long ago and having good results. (Fans) said ‘we love him for the results, but we don’t like the style’, and ‘we are unwatchable’.”

He continued, saying: “What do you prefer? To play good football and not get the results? Or to play football that suits him and get the results? Where is the line?

“Someone else will come and will start playing very good football but they will not win games and then they will be complaining at the other thing.”

West Ham must make David Moyes decision to avoid uncertain summer

West Ham have seen their hopes of qualifying for a fourth successive season of European football take a significant hit in the past week, being dumped out of the Europa League quarter-finals by Bayer Leverkusen before a 5-2 thrashing by Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

It leaves the Hammers sat eighth in the table, five points off the top six with a negative goal difference and having played at least one more match than most of the teams around them.

West Ham manager David Moyes
David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

Moyes came into this season riding the crest of a wave after last season’s UEFA Conference League triumph and the first half of the campaign saw the Hammers pushing hard for a top-six finish.

But results on multiple fronts since the turn of the year and West Ham’s tentative style of play have only seen calls for the Scotsman’s sacking increase.

With coaches like Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca linked with the London Stadium job, Moyes could well be on the way out at West Ham, but Fabregas was keen to remind Irons fans that the grass might not be greener without him in the dugout.

In other West Ham news, Vincent Kompany’s name has been mentioned with regards to the Hammers’ job.
