Carlton Palmer: Declan Rice would cost more than Harry Kane

Carlton Palmer believes that Declan Rice would cost more than Harry Kane should West Ham decide to cash in on him.

Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with the 22-year-old all summer [Goal], and their interest does not seem to be dying down.

Kane was also subject to transfer interest from Manchester City in the summer, but he ended up staying put at Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham

Palmer, a Sky Sports pundit, told This Is Futbol, “Whether he’s worth more than Harry Kane or not, I mean, we know that £120million has been offered for Harry Kane and they’ve turned it down.

“Declan Rice, West Ham are saying £100million, but the difference you’ve got here is Declan Rice is 22. A club would pay in the region of that for him.

“He does do a fantastic job in the current Premier League and in the current West Ham side and I think he would probably go for more than Harry Kane and that’s just down to his age really.”

Valid points

City were unwilling to match Kane’s asking rate and after the season he’s having, his value is going to reduce considerably.

Add to that, he is close to 30 and is unlikely to get any better whereas Rice has his entire career ahead of him.

Rice may not be world class yet, but he’s certainly got the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

West Ham

He’s already one of the Premier League’s best midfielders and that is a tall order, given the quality this league possesses.

While Hammers fans would hate to see him go, they know that he might have ambitions to win some of the biggest trophies and that’s not something he can attain in east London.

At least, his sale is expected to bring in a record transfer fee which is some solace for the club.
