Aston Villa focus elsewhere after failed quest to sign West Ham keeper Darren Randolph

Aston Villa are reportedly plotting a move for Robin Olsen after they failed in their pursuit of signing West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, they’re already looking at alternatives and have cooled interest in the 34-year-old.

The veteran appeared set to move to Villa Park, but per Daily Mail’s Chief Football Reporter Sami Mokbel, Moyes pulled the plug on the transfer.

Crook wrote, “AVFC now turning their attentions to Robin Olsen after failing to land Darren Randolph.”

Shame

Randolph, who has been labelled “brilliant” in the past by Vladimir Coufal, is doing nothing but occupying squad space at the London Stadium.

Signing him for the second time made very little sense and not letting him join Villa is an equally baffling choice.

The 34-year-old is unlikely to play for the club again and financially, letting him go would’ve been a good move for the club.

Moyes wanted him to stay for dressing room influence, which says something, as he does not think that the likes of Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell are good enough to lead this team.

Hopefully, some common sense prevails and the club ship Randolph out at the earliest.

However, as it stands, it looks like he’s going to be on until the end of the season.
