West Ham United: Alan Shearer wowed by Alphonse Areola and Jarrod Bowen in 4-2 win v Brentford
West Ham duo Alphonse Areola and Jarrod Bowen have been named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.
It comes after their displays for the Hammers in their 4-2 win against Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday (26 February).
Both players played the entire 90 minutes of the Premier League clash, with the hosts going eighth in the table after the victory.
Discussing Areola, Shearer told the official Premier League website: “Despite conceding two goals, he made several really good saves.”
And on Bowen, Shearer noted: “A clinical display as he scored his first Premier League hat-trick. Are you watching Gareth Southgate?”
West Ham overcome Brentford at the London Stadium
Unsurprisingly, Hammers attacker Bowen has stolen the majority of the headlines from the London Stadium victory.
The winger netted the first hat-trick of his senior career to help the hosts to a much-needed win, but the Hammers were definitely helped out massively at the back by Areola.
A disastrous start to 2024 means the 4-2 win is the club’s first of the year, with some pressure now eased on manager David Moyes.
Brentford have also been struggling this year, with their issues continuing in East London, with Thomas Frank’s men currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table.
Bowen has had a slight dip in form recently, but that is simply because of the superb standards that he set himself earlier in the season.
He is now back to his very best, with a spot in Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad surely now inevitable for Bowen.
The winger will be key for the London Stadium outfit in the coming months, with a trip to Everton coming up next.
