Ally McCoist has gushed over Jarrod Bowen after his hattrick in the 4-2 win against Brentford, insisting the forward should be selected for the England squad ahead of the European Championships.

The former Rangers striker lauded the way Bowen has stepped up to play a new role in the absence of a striker at the London Stadium, with his goal return proving the success.

With the European Championships fast approaching, Gareth Southgate will be left with a decision to make over the Hammers star, and after that performance, his mind could be made up.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [27 February, 06:05], McCoist shared: "It's absolutely amazing, the transformation of him. With injuries to Antonio and the lack of a centre-forward, he's been given the added responsibility of playing in that role, and boy oh boy has he delivered.

"His return of goal, his general play, his assist, his form - without doubt, Gareth [Southgate] should be looking at him.

"It's the first team there's serious debate about Gareth's squad and the fringe players, but Jarrod Bowen has been terrific, I think he should go on that plane."

Will West Ham star Jarrod Bowen receive an England call-up?

After his performance against Brentford, there should be no doubt that Bowen is worthy of a place in the Euro 2024 squad. Southgate has shown in the past he can be loyal to his players, and the West Ham man should receive that treatment.

It had been a short spell without goals for Bowen, but that dry run came at a time when his side could ill afford it, although he and West Ham returned with a bang at the London Stadium.

The tips for a place in the England squad aren't new after Gabby Agbonlahor previously insisted he should be in with a good chance of earning his place on the plane, but that performance will have added further fuel to the fire.

Another side note of this discussion is the future of Kalvin Phillips in the England squad. His performances have been rather the opposite of those of his teammate, casting his place in the squad into doubt.
