Taty Castellanos risked a two-game ban with one of his actions in West Ham's defeat to Charlton Athletic.

That is the view of former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher, who was reacting to footage shown from Saturday's contest

Joel Piroe scored a debut goal for West Ham after Lloyd Jones and Tyreece Campbell had put Charlton two goals up at the London Stadium.

Taty then missed a stoppage-time penalty as West Ham were on the end of a 2-1 loss in their first home game back in the second tier.

It comes on the back of a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor in the Irons' opener last week.

It was something Taty did prior to his penalty miss that could have earned him even more flak from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Taty tried to con the officials into awarding West Ham a penalty against Charlton.

Referee Andrew Kitchen spotted that the two-cap Argentina international went to ground without ex-Hammer Conor Coventry making any contact.

Ironically, had Kitchen not spotted the dive and awarded West Ham a spot-kick instead, it could have landed Taty in hot water.

This is in the wake of West Brom striker aune Heggebo getting a two-game ban for allegedly deceiving the match officials when handling the ball into the next against Norwich City.

Asked on Sky Sports News' Ref Watch if Taty would have faced the same action as Heggebo, Gallagher said: "On that basis, yes. He'd have deceived the referee to win a penalty.

"I don't think he'd even need to score [the pen]. He's deceived the referee."

Nuno told to have a word with Taty Castellanos

Taty made himself look silly with his cheating and then his penalty miss later in the game.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Keith Hackett urged Nuno to have a word with Taty over his actions.

"The manager of West Ham needs to have a word in the ear of this player and give him some operational advice in his blatant act to cheat," the former PGMOL chief said.

It has been a bad start to the Championship campaign for West Ham and Taty, who has been booked in both games, but hopefully that all soon changes.
