Taty Castellanos accused of cheating vs Charlton, Nuno Espirito Santo urged to hold talks with West Ham striker
Taty Castellanos did himself no favours as West Ham United lost to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
The Argentine once again started up front for the Hammers as they lined up at the London Stadium.
Having scored two against Portsmouth to open the campaign in the Carabao Cup, there was hope that he would once again hit the ground running back in E20.
That didn't happen and his performance was genuinely hard to watch at times.
The 27-year-old missed a 93rd minute penalty to make sure the Irons didn't even get a point from the local derby.
Castellanos raised tension in East London with that, but it wasn't even the most frustrating thing he did against Charlton.
Why Nuno Espirito Santo must hold talks with Taty Castellanos at West Ham
There is a genuine element of surprise that the forward has stuck around to this point of the window.
He has been consistently playing top flight football since becoming a regular at New York City FC.
It looks as if he is going to remain at the London Stadium, but he certainly has to adapt quickly to the Championship.
That was proven when he dived inside the Charlton penalty area and was quickly shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Kitchen.
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has been left angry by the act of simulation and has called Nuno Espirito Santo to halt that sort of behaviour on the pitch.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Hackett said: "Well done to the referee for correctly sanctioning the actions of the West Ham United player.
"It was a clear act of simulation to deceive the referee and it was really good to see the referee act by issuing a yellow card.
"The manager of West Ham needs to have a word in the ear of this player and give him some operational advice in his blatant act to cheat."
How did Castellanos perform vs Charlton?
It was always going to take an adaptation period for the 27-year-old to come to terms with the second tier.
It seems he hasn't quite come out the other side of that, based on his performance against the Addicks.
He clocked up just 23 touches of the ball and managed to complete just seven passes.
Despite that, he still registered seven shots, but summed up his game when only three of those were on target.
The Argentine lost five duels and gave away two fouls as he struggled to deal with the physicality up against him at times.
The biggest issue for Castellanos is the diving as it is something that won't work in the Championship.
Nuno needs to have a word with his striker, otherwise it's going to be a very tough season for him to negotiate.
