Why Mads Hermansen is central to debate as Danish media react to West Ham star vs Wales
West Ham United's Mads Hermansen featured in Denmark's 1-0 win over Wales on Sunday.
The goalkeeper started for his nation in an important Nations League clash, as the result helped them leapfrog their opponents in the group table.
Denmark now sit in second place in Group 4 after the win, and Hermansen has started in both of his country's last two games.
Nuno Espirito Santo has chosen the 26-year-old as his favoured shot-stopper for the Hammers this season, with question marks hovering over the future of Alphonse Areola.
The goalkeeper has played in all eight of the Irons' opening Championship games, and is now due to return to Rush Green ahead of the resumption of club football.
Thankfully for West Ham, it appears that Hermansen is headed back to E20 on the back of a good performance.
What Danish media have said after Mads Hermansen performance vs Wales
Hermansen was able to keep a clean sheet, but also only had one save to make.
The keeper still had an 81 per cent passing accuracy, completing two out of his seven attempted long balls.
He made six throws, three high claims and 10 recoveries, helping his side to an important win in a hostile environment away from home.
Tipsbladet gave him a 4/5 rating, writing: "Like Filip Jorgensen, he has played one good and one bad game out of the two he has had, and there must still be doubts about who is Denmark's number one."
PLBOLD split their rankings into different categories: high class, above average, medium, below average and outside rating.
Hermansen ranked in medium, as they wrote: "Flawless effort by Hermansen. He ruled the airspace supremely and was not put to the great test."
DR gave him a 7/10 rating, explaining: "For the second game in a row, Hermansen was in place in the Danish goal, where he was mostly in action with his feet in the first half.
"He stayed a lot on the line when crossing, and the Welsh didn't have any great finishes on goal. First of all, he constantly radiated and could, without any major saves, record an important clean sheet."
Despite Hermansen's good performance, it appears that he is still in competition with Chelsea's Filip Jorgensen for a spot.
His goalkeeping competitor is currently on loan in France with Strasbourg, and started in Denmark's first two Nations League matches.
Head coach Brian Riemer has now seen both shot-stoppers in action and will have to decide on one ahead of the November break.
Does Hermansen face any threat at West Ham?
There is a mystery surrounding Areola, who has not featured in a West Ham matchday squad since a 2-1 loss to Charlton in late August.
However, Nuno is set to give the likes of Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa another chance at the London Stadium, so could he do the same with Areola?
Well, Hermansen has only ever played one season in the Championship, which resulted in promotion for Leicester City.
He's had some good moments for the Hammers so far, but has done nothing to suggest he is nailed down if Areola comes back into contention.
Nuno clearly favours the Denmark international right now, but the Championship is always a long slog, and plenty of ups and downs are yet to come.
