Why Konstantinos Mavropanos is primed to enter West Ham lore vs Millwall

Konstantinos Mavropanos is going to be one of West Ham United's best weapons against Millwall.

The Hammers travel to The Den to take on Millwall this Saturday in the first Dockers' Derby since 2012.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side were unbeaten in six games before a 3-2 defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Mavropanos played once again for the Irons, picking up an assist, which is his fourth goal contribution of the season already.

The Greece international was linked with a London Stadium exit earlier this summer, but, like Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek, he decided to stay and fight in E20.

Mavropanos now has a chance to cement his name in West Ham history against Millwall, and luckily for him, everything lines up perfectly for him to do so.

Mavropanos averages a goal or an assist every other game, with four attacking involvements in eight games so far this season.

The 28-year-old has been a key aerial threat for Nuno, but he's also been brilliant in his own box, too.

Alex Neil plays direct football with Millwall, with 6'2" Lyndon Dykes currently their main attacking outlet.

While Dykes wins 59 per cent of his aerial duels, Mavropanos wins 74 per cent of his own, and will look to have the striker's number.

West Ham are three away from having taken the joint-most corners in the division with 42, and have scored the second-most from set pieces in general (5).

Mavropanos is in prime form in front of goal, and may have the aerial threat over any Millwall player, as well as the defensive IQ and ability to keep the ball from going in his own net.

Why 'huge' Mavropanos claim hasn't gone away

Mavropanos has consistently been one of Nuno's best players since he joined West Ham.

So much so that West Ham's official website released an article about him in April, hailing him as a "huge" reason for the Hammers' fight to stay in the Premier League.

The centre-back has started all but one Championship game for the Irons this season, and is on track to ease his way into the team of the season.

He, Morato and Max Kilman have started to form partnerships on the field, and it's showing in results.
