West Ham's Manor Solomon slams controversial incident in Israel defeat vs Austria

West Ham United's Manor Solomon and his Israel side tasted defeat in their UEFA Nations League group stage opener on Thursday.

The 27-year-old has been included in Israel's squad for these Nations League internationals.

Israel began their campaign in Linz on Thursday night, as they took on Ralf Rangnick's Austria.

Ran Ben Shimon's side were defeated 3-1 by the Austrians, and must now lick their wounds ahead of Sunday's clash with Ireland.

The game wasn't without controversy either, as Israel finished the match with 10 players on the pitch.

Speaking after the defeat, Solomon made it clear that he wasn't happy with the officiating performance.

In the 55th minute of the match, Israel's Sayed Abu Farkhi scored a header to level the scores at 1-1.

For his celebration, he decided to run over to the corner flag and use it to mimic the firing of a gun.

Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov didn't like this, and showed Farkhi a second yellow card for an 'excessive celebration' offence.

Speaking via Israeli news outlet Sport 5 post-match, Solomon was quizzed on his thoughts on the sending off and the refereeing performance in general.

"I don't know the constitution well enough, but I'm sure in most cases they wouldn't have given a second yellow card for it," he said.

"This isn't the first time, but we have to deal with it. I don't want to take it as an excuse."

Solomon is also a big player for Israel, and he played 73 minutes before being withdrawn against Austria.

Per FotMob, no player on the pitch completed more dribbles than his three on Thursday night, whilst he also completed 16 of his 18 pass attempts successfully.

He won five ground duels, two fouls, made two recoveries and played one pass into the final third, as he tried his best to drag Israel into the game.

As such, Solomon is likely to have shown enough against Austria to once again be in the starting XI when Israel host Ireland on Sunday.
