David Moyes made a clear refusal over West Ham signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan this summer, according to Claret and Hugh.
The Hammers-related news outlet reported on Saturday (9 September) that any deal involving the Belgium international would've been a loan.
However, the Scotsman opted against it, with moving to Roma on loan, reuniting with former manager Jose Mourinho.
Better than no striker?
The Hammers were linked with a plethora of strikers this summer but did not get anyone over the line.
Michail Antonio was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, a deal which could've raked in decent funds for the club, but the move did not go through.
Danny Ings, another player linked with the exit door, was not allowed to leave, due to the lack of reinforcements.
Gianluca Scamacca was sold, and the Hammers incurred a loss, but those were funds that should've been spent on another striker.
Lukaku may not be the name that excited fans, but his track record at Everton and West Brom proves he can help teams punch above their weight.
He would've been an upgrade on the options West Ham have and even if it failed, it would've just been a loan deal.
