West Ham: Netherlands media in love with Crysencio Summerville after Japan draw
West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville made his impact felt in the Netherlands' opening World Cup game.
Summerville only made his debut for the Dutch national side 11 days prior to Sunday night's clash with Japan in Arlington.
The winger was injured in March, ruling him out of a couple of friendlies, but Ronald Koeman still selected him for World Cup duty.
And Summerville certainly did not disappoint as he marked his start with a brilliant goal.
That came after Keito Nakamura had cancelled out Virgil van Dijk's opener at Dallas Stadium.
The Netherlands could not hold on as Daichi Kamada scored a dramatic late leveller to deny Summerville and his teammates.
Crysencio Summerville a 'standout player' for Netherlands
Summerville played 70 minutes of the Group F clash and was given the highest rating of any player by Sofascore.
The was reflected by the local media, as Voetbal Primeur gave the 24-year-old a 7/10 rating.
While that may not sound all that encouraging, it was the highest of any Dutch player.
The report stated: "Exactly eleven days after his debut for the Dutch national team, Summerville wrote his own fairy tale by scoring a beauty to make it 2-1."
Voetbal International, meanwhile, gave Summerville a 7.5 rating - again the highest - and added that he was the "standout player" for Oranje.
And De Telegraaf also waxed lyrical over Summerville, stating that he must have "pinched himself" after being selected, prior to his "impressive" finish.
It is fair to say Summerville has instantly won over the Dutch media in his first fortnight in the national team.
Summerville's performance vs Japan in numbers
As aforementioned, Summerville was the best player on the field statistically speaking.
He had no real right to score, having generated an expected goals (xG) value of just 0.02 all evening.
Summerville scored from his only shot and completed his only attempted take-on.
The West Ham attacker, linked with a summer exit, completed 89 per cent of his 29 attempted passes and also won five out of seven duels.
It was a great all-round performance, and one that will almost certainly land him a starting spot against Sweden on Saturday evening.
