West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka made his second World Cup appearance in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as DR Congo took on Colombia.

After securing a point against Portugal last week, the Congolese were looking for another huge result as they fight for a knockout spot.

Instead, they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Colombia, with Crystal Palace man Daniel Munoz scoring a late winner.

Following the Hammers' relegation to the Championship, right-back Wan-Bissaka is set for a departure this summer, with Everton linked with a move.

Joining from Manchester United in the summer of 2024, he has made 65 appearances in claret and blue, delivering two goals and eight assists.

However, he does have his flaws, with these highlighted in his most recent World Cup display.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka carries West Ham performances onto global stage

Throughout his career, the full-back has faced mixed reviews.

The simple fact of the matter is that there could not be more of a contrast between the attacking and defensive sides of his game.

He had 48 touches of the ball overnight and failed to complete any dribbles.

At the same time, he completed one out of three long balls, while not a single of the 48 touches came in the opposition box.

At the same time, he put in an absolutely immense defensive performance, with Wan-Bissaka and Chancel Mbemba keeping Bayern Munich man Luis Diaz impressively quiet.

Diaz would complete just one dribble, while he struggled on both the inside and outside of the back five.

Wan-Bissaka would register nine defensive contributions - the most alongside Axel Tuanzebe.

Out of these, he would rack up five tackles, three interceptions and one clearance, while he won 5/8 ground duels and made four recoveries.

In a tale of two halves of his game, the 28-year-old put in a more than solid defensive showing, before letting himself down in the final third once again.

West Ham to have fingers crossed over Wan-Bissaka in North America

Thus far, the Congolese full-back has performed well at the World Cup - even if his attacking flaws have been exposed.

Naturally, his side were always going to be on the back foot in matches against Portugal and Colombia.

But DR Congo have impressively conceded just twice, with the African nation pushing Portugal to the limit last week.

Should the performances continue for Wan-Bissaka, the Hammers could well demand a much more favourable price this summer, with Premier League interest there.
