West Ham United are going strong in their attempt to earn an immediate return to the Premier League.

The Hammers endured a desperately disappointing 2025/26 campaign, which resulted in the heartbreak of dropping into the Championship.

A summer of turmoil followed, with the likes of Mateus Fernandez, Crysencio Summerville, and El-Hadji Malick Diouf sold.

But Nuno Espirito Santo's side are going strong in the second tier, sitting second after 11 games and sitting just one point adrift of top spot.

Indeed, the Hammers defeated taple-toppers Swansea City 1-0 in South Wales last time in a big statement victory.

However, comedian and television personality Tom Davis - a noted Hammers fan - made an honest admission about West Ham live on talkSPORT.

Why West Ham fan Tom Davis doesn't like the Premier League

Davis was speaking with breakfast presenters Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor on Tuesday morning (20 October).

He was asked about West Ham's start to the season, and a number of other topics related to the Hammers.

The 47-year-old said he has been loving the Championship and the volume of games there are in the second tier.

Interestingly, he said that if it were viable he would happily have West Ham stay in the Championship due to "all the rubbish" in the Premier League.

Among his most potent issues was the use of VAR, something that many fans of top-flight clubs have an issue with.

Davis said live on talkSPORT: "At the moment If I'm honest with you, with VAR and all this rubbish going on in the Premier League, if it was financially sustainable to be in the Championship, I'd stay.

"I love the Championship, it's two games a week, it (the matches) can kind of go any way."

A fair assessment for West Ham?

You can totally understand Davis' opinion on this.

The Premier League can be a really frustrating watch, with delays caused by painful VAR checks for the most minute of incidents.

The Championship can be great fun, with the games often full-blooded and any team capable of beating another.

Ultimately, though, West Ham have designs on the Premier League.

It was only a few years ago the Hammers were competing in European competition, and that has to be the long-term ambition.
