West Ham United were involved in late drama as they fought back to draw with Queens Park Rangers.

The Hammers returned to action after an elongated international break on Friday.

However, they could only draw 1-1 with the Rs at the London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen cancelling out Nicolas Madsen's first-half penalty.

Captain Bowen had the chance to win it late on, but saw a last-gasp penalty saved by visiting goalkeeper Pierce Charles.

West Ham have consequently drawn four of their nine league outings this season, and sit four points adrift of Championship table-toppers Swansea City in third.

Here, West Ham Zone looks at three questions to have emerged from the past week at the London Stadium.

Should West Ham push for VAR in the Championship?

VAR is not exactly popular among fanbases across the country, and most would happily see it scrapped altogether.

But referee Ruebyn Ricardo was criticised for awarded a penalty against the returning Tomas Soucek for a foul on Paul Smyth against QPR.

Replays suggested the Czechia midfielder got enough contact on the ball, but without VAR in the second tier the decisions stood.

Nuno Espirito Santo was evidently unhappy with the awarding of the spot-kick, and it does beg the question of whether VAR - despite its issues - should be used in the Championship.

Should Jarrod Bowen remain as penalty taker?

It was a frusrating end to the game for Bowen, who had dragged the Hammers back into the contest.

He has vowed to remain as West Ham's penalty taker, and given Taty Castellanos has also missed a spot-kick this term it feels likely the skipper will continue to shoulder the burden.

In fairness to Bowen, it was the first time he had failed to convert from the spot since October 2022.

Some might suggest, though, that another option might be better served taking the next one. Good luck getting the ball off the skipper, though.

Did Nuno get his West Ham team selection right vs QPR?

The Hammers were sluggish in the first half against QPR, much like they were in the 2-2 draw against Millwall before the international break.

Soucek returned after a five-month absence and lasted 45 minutes before coming off, with some questioning the decision to throw him straight back in.

Joel Piroe also did not come on until the 67th minute, despite the fact his best performances this term have come at home.

West Ham did eventually get bac into the game, and would have taken all three points but for Charles' heroics.

But Nuno did face plenty of questions over his selection for the fixture.
