Supercomputer predicts West Ham vs Wrexham result in 45-year first

West Ham United are looking to make it four Championship wins in a row when they host Wrexham on Friday night.

Jarrod Bowen's double helped West Ham beat Bolton Wanderers 3-2 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

That win followed victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are now back on home soil for a first-ever clash there against Wrexham.

A supercomputer has now predicted what will happen in this latest encounter.

Wrexham have been on an ascent up the divisions in recent years, while West Ham are competing a league below their natural habitat.

That explains why this is the first league encounter between the two teams in 45 years.

West Ham were 1-0 winners in that game on 2 May, 1981 in the old Division Two thanks to a Ray Stewart goal.

The sides have met more recently than then in the FA Cup, with Wrexham 1-0 winners at Upton Park in a third-round replay in January 1997 after the first match finished 1-1.

Overall, West Ham have won three, drawn six and lost four of the 13 games they have played against the Welsh side.

Wrexham are four points worse off than West Ham in 14th place, having drawn four of their first six matches so far.

The most recent of those stalemates came at home to Burnley on Tuesday.

Wrexham are certainly capable of grinding out a result, then, but Opta Analyst's supercomputer has West Ham down as strong favourites to win this match in East London.

The Hammers' likelihood of winning is at 59.2 per cent, compared to 19.2 per cent for Wrexham. The draw is given a 21.6 per cent chance of happening.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping the supercomputer prediction is correct, as it has been for the Irons' past three games.
