Ollie Scarles central to more West Ham anger after what's happened vs Charlton
Ollie Scarles has once again come under fire as West Ham United go in at the break against Charlton Athletic.
The Hammers began their first Championship outing at the London Stadium full of hope.
Having brought new signings Arne Engels and Joel Piroe into the side, it was supposed to be a positive afternoon.
It didn't start that way as the Addicks had the better of the chances before taking the lead.
Lloyd Jones opened the scoring after seven minutes and that's how the scoreline stayed moving into the break.
West Ham are trying too hard to score the perfect goal, something that hasn't been helped by Scarles.
Ollie Scarles' lack of quality under fire vs Charlton Athletic
The 20-year-old has been afforded the chance to be the go-to left-back this season under Nuno Espirito Santo.
That didn't really take anyone by surprise given how often he'd featured in the Premier League.
He hasn't impressed in the role so far this campaign having come under fire against Burnley last time out.
The defender gave away the penalty for the Clarets to get back on level terms at the end of a mixed display.
Things haven't gotten any better against Charlton as ex-Manchester United man and West Ham-born Paul Parker has been left fuming by what he's seen from Scarles.
Speaking via BBC Radio London on Saturday, the former defender showed his frustration towards the Irons man.
He said: "It's the second time, off his second cross, that he's just put it into the arms of the keeper. He's got into a premium position on the byline to pull it back and he's given it to the goalkeeper twice.
"He's got to do better than that. The quality has to be better. You've got to expect more from him in that area."
Why Joel Veltman must come on for West Ham
There has been nothing good about the hosts in the first half against Nathan Jones' side.
They have been so desperate to score "the perfect goal" that they are playing far too intricately.
Scarles is only playing a role in how bad they have been.
He continues to swing crosses in and rather than picking anyone out, he continues to just put balls into an area.
That isn't working as Charlton keeper Arthur Okonkwo continues to collect them with ease.
Bringing on Joel Veltman would bring a level of experience and allow for this short passing play to be utilised more effectively.
It isn't working for Scarles and he needs to be removed before he faces any more negative reviews in E20.
