National media shares where El Hadji Malick Diouf was clearly lacking in brutal 3/10 rating in Senegal's World Cup defeat to Norway
West Ham United full-back El Hadji Malick Diouf suffered more World Cup disappointment with Senegal at the World Cup on Monday.
The left-back was part of the side that was beaten 3-2 by Norway in Group I at New York New Jersey Stadium.
Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland scored a brace for Norway, which proved crucial in their victory.
Ismaila Sarr also netted twice for Senegal, though the second was late in the game and failed to inspire a revival.
Having already lost to France, Senegal now need to beat Iraq and hope they can secure one of eight best third-place spots on offer to make the knockout stages.
And the national media in Senegal has been reacting to the performance of Diouf and his team-mates.
El Hadji Malick Diouf given torrid time by Norway ace, but it wasn't Haaland
Diouf endured an inconsistent 2025/26 Premier League campaign, and was part of a Hammers side who were relegated to the Championship.
Going forward, Diouf can often be a very useful out, but his defending has always come under fire.
WIW Sport alluded to the latter fact, stating how Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth gave him an extremely difficult outing.
They score Diouf a grim 3/10, and said: "Despite being well-positioned for most of the game against the French wingers in the first match, the Lions' left-back struggled to contain Sorloth tonight.
"The Atletico Madrid striker frequently managed to get past him to find a teammate, as seen in the 14th minute or his missed interception against Sorloth (20th minute). He offered little going forward."
DSport offered a slightly better assessment of his showing against Sorloth, scoring him a 5.5/10.
They wrote: "Serious and focused, he delivered a decent performance against Sorloth. Unfortunately, his crosses weren't as accurate as usual."
What is Diouf's West Ham future looking like?
Diouf only arrived at the Hammers from Slavia Prague in a £19million deal last July.
However, following the Irons' drop to the second tier, the 21-year-old is one of several assets who might be sold this summer.
The likes of Manchester United and Leeds United are among those who were credited with an interest following West Ham's relegation.
Right now there has not been any particularly concrete news on his future, and it remains a possibility he will remain part of the squad in the Championship.
But if a serious bid does materialise, you sense West Ham might be agreeable to a sale to try and ease lingering financial concerns.
