Manor Solomon faces UEFA probe after what West Ham star said about Israel controversy vs Austria

West Ham United winger Manor Solomon could find himself in hot water after Israel's Nations League defeat to Austria.

Israel started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Ralf Rangnick's side in Linz on Thursday.

Israel trailled to Romano Schmid's 43rd minute penalty, but the real controversy occurred in the 56th minute.

Sayed Abu Farchi had just equalised for Ran Ben Shimon's to level things at one apiece.

However, Farchi then saw red immediately after for his celebration, earning a second caution having already been booked.

Solomon voiced his disapproval after the game, in comments that could potentially land him in hot water.

Farchi was shown a second yellow for taking out the corner flag and mimicking using it as a gun.

Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov took a dim view of the celebration, and showed a second yellow for an 'excessive celebration' offence.

It would ultimately prove costly, as Austria scored late goals from Phillipp Mwene and Sasa Kalajdzic earned victory for the hosts.

Solomon, 27, was not happy with the decision when speaking with the media after the game telling Sport 5 that he did not think a yellow card should be shown.

He also stated that "we know that the refereeing is not always in our favour" when reacting to the controversy.

Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett now expects the relevant authorities to probe Solomon's comments.

Solomon's frustration after the game was plainly evident.

But Hackett, former head of the PGMOL, thinks the referee was right to sanction Farchi with a second yellow card.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Hackett said: "The referee has taken the appropriate action of issuing this yellow card for his provocative goal celebration.

"His actions are ‘over the top’ and, of course, by removing the corner flag may well have delayed the restart.

"Solomon's comments will certainly be looked at by the authorities."

It remains to be seen if Solomon will face any reprimand for his words after the game.

But often comments about officials can see players get into trouble, so it would not be beyond the realms of possibility that he does.
