Lee Carsley's Divine Mukasa verdict after England promotion as West Ham loanee enters 60-man shortlist
Lee Carsley was pleased to call up West Ham United loanee Divine Mukasa to England's U21 setup.
The attacking midfielder received his first call-up to the U21s squad after impressing for the U20s.
He has featured for the young Three Lions over the international break, helping them qualify for their UEFA European Championship, which will take place next year.
Mukasa has caught the eye after impressing under Nuno Espiritio Santo at the London Stadium, backing up his highly-rated Manchester City reputation.
The 19-year-old featured in England's matchday squad against Slovakia's U21s on Friday, which saw the Three Lions confirm their qualification for the UEFA tournament.
Mukasa has had a chance to show Carsley what he can do in training, as the West Ham loanee now faces a huge couple of months ahead of him.
What Divine Mukasa has to prove for club and country after Lee Carsley admission
Mukasa has played nine times for West Ham already, and has two goals to his name.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with Leicester City, and though the Foxes were relegated, he managed to pick up five goals and assists combined in 15 Championship games.
The teenager is now growing in confidence under Nuno in E20, and will be hoping to play for England at the U21s UEFA European Championship next year.
England U21s boss Carsley has now opened up on the work being done ahead of the major tournament, as well as sharing his thoughts on Mukasa and others.
Carsley said, as quoted by Henry Winter on X: "I'm maybe monitoring 60-odd players weekly. We've got a big recruitment department. I really like working with this generation of players.
"We've been lucky enough to bring in Mukasa, Trey Nyoni and Harrison Armstrong as well, young players.
"We've got a lot of players on the list."
It seems that the England boss thinks highly of Mukasa, and he may be given a chance in the Three Lions' final U21s clash of the break against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
But if he does get a chance, the West Ham man will have to take it.
What does this mean for Mukasa's potential allegiance switch?
Mukasa has played more than 10 times for England's U19s, and was deserving of a promotion.
However, he managed to skip straight past the U20s after Carsley called him up, which proves just how highly rated the West Ham man is.
Uganda are targeting Mukasa ahead of a potential allegiance switch, but that change has been thrown into doubt after his latest call-up.
The attacking midfielder will see his England U21s call-up as progress, and a potential pathway for him to play for the senior team one day.
