Joel Piroe sends two-word message to West Ham star outscoring him after win vs Lincoln City
Joel Piroe played his part in West Ham United's 6-0 demolition of Lincoln City.
The Suriname international is still trying to cement a starting role under Nuno Espirito Santo this season.
Wednesday night saw him make his sixth start from his nine Championship appearances, and he marked it with an assist for Edvin Austbo's goal.
Konstantinos Mavropanos gave the Hammers the prior to half-time, before Austbo, Jarrod Bowen, Pablo and a Tomas Soucek double secured the points after the break.
Lincoln were powerless to prevent the Irons running riot at Sincil Bank, as referee Andrew Kitchen brandished two red cards to them inside the opening 23 minutes.
Among all the West Ham goalscorers on Wednesday night, perhaps the biggest story lies with the man who scored the opener.
What did Joel Piroe say to Konstantinos Mavropanos?
After 10 games played in the Championship this season, there are only three players in the entire division who've scored more than Mavropanos.
Middlesbrough's Will Lankshear leads the way with eight goals, followed in second by Southampton's Cyle Larin on seven.
Bowen takes third spot with six goals, and then hunting all three of those deadly forwards down is Mavropanos with five.
The latest of which he netted against Lincoln, with his 45th-minute header from a corner breaking the deadlock and Imps hearts simultaneously.
Piroe took to his Instagram story after the game, and made a point to credit the Greek defender for his latest goalscoring exploits.
"Air dinos," wrote the Hammers striker, in a nod to the Air Jordan brand of sportswear shoes produced in collaboration with basketball icon Michael Jordan.
So, aside from his goal, just how good was Mavropanos before he was replaced against Lincoln?
Mavropanos' Lincoln display wasn't just about his goal
After picking up a yellow card on 51 minutes, and with his team already 3-0 up, Nuno decided to protect Mavropanos and bring him off.
Indeed, the central defender has played a lot of football already this season, and is going to be an essential to West Ham's promotion push.
Per FotMob, Mavropanos completed 51 of his 57 pass attempts successfully on Wednesday night, whilst also creating one chance.
He took 73 touches, played seven passes into the final third, played three accurate long balls and completed his lone dribble attempt successfully.
Defensively, Mavropanos made six clearances, two tackles and recoveries, won three of his five ground duels and six of his seven in the air.
So, whether it's orchestrating attacks, scoring goals or being a defensive stalwart, Mavropanos can and is doing it all for West Ham this season.
