Joel Piroe had to settle for a cameo appearance as he returned to Swansea with West Ham United.

The Suriname international started his journey in the EFL with the Swans, making a real name for himself in South Wales.

After that, he moved to Leeds and finally got his shot at Premier League football after firing them to promotion.

That didn't go as planned, and it led him to West Ham.

Nuno Espirito Santo was delighted on Saturday as the Hammers took a huge step in the Championship, beating the leaders 1-0 to cut the gap.

And Piroe was pleased for another reason, too.

What did Joel Piroe say?

Piroe came on for the final five minutes alongside Tomas Soucek in a late double subsitution.

West Ham came under heavy pressure in the second half, but saw it off to pick up their biggest three points of the season so far.

Upon his return, Piroe took to Instagram after the game to send a specific message to the Swans.

Sharing on his story with an image of him applauding, the striker wrote: "Always special to be back in Swansea.

"Three points on the road."

Joel Piroe likely expected drama

When facing his former side with Leeds, Piroe did get given the odd jeer when touching the ball.

Of course, it likely doesn't help when you pull off your signature celebration when scoring against them.

That didn't happen on Saturday, with his small cameo more to see out the win, rather than take advantage of chances.

Nuno went with Pablo from the off in South Wales, knowing that the Swans would want to keep heavy possession.

It meant having Taty Castellanos and Piroe to bring off the bench, possibly making it the most stacked bench of all time in the Championship.

With only three goals from 10 appearances so far, much more was likely expected from the Leeds striker.

But, he's scored more than Pablo and Taty, so it's good that the goals are being shared around the squad right now.

That is what will keep this promotion push alive, not just one player.
