Divine Mukasa reflects on 'mad' thing Pep Guardiola did for him at Manchester City
Divine Mukasa has hit the ground running since returning to West Ham United on loan.
The teenage midfielder came through the youth groups with the Hammers, before departing for Manchester City in 2023.
Mukasa made his first-team breakthrough under Pep Guardiola last season.
He would later join Leicester City on loan for the second half of the campaign, and was part of a Foxes side relegated from the Championship.
The 19-year-old already has two goals to his name since re-joining the Hammers on loan for the 2026/27 campaign, though.
And Mukasa reflected on working under legendary manager Guardiola and the "mad" thing he did for him.
What did Pep Guardiola do for West Ham loanee Divine Mukasa?
Mukasa did a wide-ranging interview with West Ham's official website.
He spoke about the circumstances of his return, and how he relished the opportunity to return to the London Stadium.
Last season, Mukasa made a few appearances in the Carabao Cup for City, featuring in wins over Huddersfield, Swansea, and Brentford.
Then, in a nice twist of fate, Mukasa came off the bench to make his Premier League debut on 20 December, 2025.
His opponents on that day just happened to be West Ham.
Mukasa spoke about playing under the tutelage of Guardiola, and making his City debut against the Irons.
He said: "I learned so much working with Pep Guardiola.
"I think he just loves football so much and is so authentic and honest. None of it is an act. That is him.
"I think that's why he goes around and shows appreciation or even if he sees something that someone in the opposition team is doing, he loves it so much to the point that he would tell them and embrace others as well.
"I don't know whether it (getting his debut) was that day on purpose or what but it was definitely a great day for me and my family, I think.
"It was really good to make my debut against West Ham, then my second game was the Manchester derby. It was mad, honestly, and such good experiences.
"I learned so much from being with Pep and the players as well, so it was really good."
Could Divine Mukasa return to West Ham United full time?
Mukasa completed his return to West Ham last month on a season-long loan.
When the deal was agreed, there was no obligation to buy nor was there an option to make it permanent.
So, if Mukasa performs well and West Ham wanted to make it a permanent deal, then they would have to negotiate with City.
It is not beyond the realms of possibility that it happens, but given he is still only 19, City might still view him as one for the long term.
However, having spent big to bring Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez, and Ayyoub Bouaddi to the Etihad Stadium this summer, his chances of regular game time may have decreased further.
