David Sullivan's stance on Mohamadou Kante revealed as ex-West Ham chairman watches on

David Sullivan is reportedly happy with the progress of West Ham United rising star Mohamadou Kante.

West Ham signed Kante in August 2024 from Paris FC and loaned him back to the French club for the remainer of the 2024-25 season.

Last term, he made his breakthrough with the Hammers, but was unfortunately part of the team that suffered relegation from the Premier League.

While that was a massive setback for the club, it proved to be a moment that would catapult Kante into the role of a regular first-team starter at the London Stadium and so far this season, the 21-year-old has played every single match across all competitions.

In his 11 total appearances, Kante has scored three goals, with his last being one that helped the Irons secured a 2-2 draw away at Millwall.

He does, however, face a one-match ban for his heroic red card at The Den, but that won't be phasing ex-West Ham chairman Sullivan.

According to RMC Sport, Sullivan is "delighted" with how Kante has performed for West Ham this season.

It is understood that the Irons co-owner "recognised the immense potential" of the French midfielder when he was on the books at Paris FC.

RMC Sports does get a few things wrong in their report, stating that Sullivan is still currently the West Ham chairman despite him stepping down from the role earlier this year due to allegations about his past conduct towards women, which he denies.

The French news outlet also adds that Fiorentina were interested in Kante in the summer and that Sullivan wanted to give him the chance to show his worth in the first team this season.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not Sullivan is still having that kind of influence behind the scenes due to investigations into historic events and the fact he's no longer the chairman.

It's also reported that interest elsewhere is now building in Kante, which is definitely believable considering how well he's done.

But would West Ham seriously consider a sale?

How much Kante is now worth

In 2024, the Irons paid jst £400,000 for Kante.

According to transfermarkt, his market value hasn't changed much, standing currently at £850,000.

However, that's nowhere near what it would take if a club was to try and sign Kante, especially with the Hammers now likely seeing him as vital to their promotion push this season.

As for Kante himself, if it comes to January and West Ham are firmly in the promotion race - which they will be - will he really be looking to leave when he's on the cusp of Premier League football?

It's highly unlikely, so it's unlikely that West Ham would be even able to put a number on how much they'd want for the midfielder currently.
