Why West Ham United will see Mohamadou Kante pound signs after transfer value reveal
West Ham United are being greatly rewarded for placing faith in Mohamadou Kante.
The 21-year-old midfielder signed from Paris FC in the summer of 2024 as a real unknown quantity.
He'd only made six competitive first-team, and indeed career, appearances for the French outfit prior to joining the Hammers.
So, the 14 games he played for the Irons last season was over double the amount of senior appearances he'd made to that point in his career.
Understandably, he struggled in the Premier League, and so questions were being asked over what they would do with him this summer.
Instead of loaning him out, the decision was made to keep him around Nuno Espirito Santo's first-team, and what a genius move that's been.
How much has Mohamadou Kante's transfer value risen this season?
So far in 2026-27, Kante has already turned out 11 times for West Ham in all competitions.
He's featured in every single one of the Irons' opening eight Championship games too, starting four of them.
The midfielder has also netted three goals, with all of them arriving in three of the last four league matches.
As a result, Kante's transfer value is rising fast, so quickly indeed that only three Championship players have seen their values rise higher this term.
Per Transfermarkt, Middlesbrough's Will Lankshear's value has risen the most, with a £9.3million increase taking his current worth to £15.3m.
Stoke's Ethan Galbraith is second with an £8m increase and Norwich's Mohamed Toure third with a £5.9m rise.
That leaves Kante in fourth, with his value rising by £5.1m, with his current worth said to be £5.9m.
But just how good are Kante's underlying numbers compared to his Championship positional rivals this season?
Why Kante's numbers show his true future value potential
One thing is for certain, and that is that Kante is far from the finished article yet.
The Frenchman still has plenty of traits and attributes to refine, and that's showcased in his underlying numbers.
What they also show, however, is just how much he could be worth soon given the rate his value has already risen at this season.
Per FotMob, Kante is in the top two percentile of all Championship defensive midfielders for his 1.72 non-penalty xG (expected goals) this season.
He also ranks in the leading three per cent for his three goals, as well as being in the top two per cent for his xG on target 2.54.
But, Kante scores in the bottom 11.1 per cent for his 41.5 per cent duels won rate, whilst also being in the lowest 33.3 per cent for his 15 defensive contributions.
He became a hero for his goal and red card at Millwall, and when he's back, it's about hitting those heights consistently.
