Steve Nickson hire now in doubt after West Ham United agreement
West Ham United are currently navigating through a real mess in the London Stadium boardroom.
Karren Brady was one of the first to pack her bags, leaving after close ally Tara Warren left east London behind.
Then came the controversy with David Sullivan.
After serious allegations on his personal and work life, Sullivan stepped down to fight back against them.
That left his space open on the board, with the likes of Daniel Kretinsky left to clear up the mess of Premier League relegation.
Just as pieces were starting to be placed back together with Steve Nickson, it appears that could go wrong, too.
What is the latest with Steve Nickson?
Nickson left Newcastle this summer after years as their head of recruitment at St James' Park.
Leaving behind a legacy like breaking their transfer record several times and bringing in Bruno Guimaraes, he will be remembered.
And that, opened the door to West Ham United.
With a Director of Football role on offer, Nickson could have shaped the future of West Ham and begin their push for Premier League football again.
According to The Sun, he had accepted that role with the Hammers.
But now, it is said that there are doubts around whether that will actually happen, with it yet to be officially finalised.
Who is left at West Ham United?
Right now, it appears that Nuno Espirito Santo has been left to clean up the mess after sticking around post relegation.
Kretinsky and Vanessa Gold remain joint-chairs of the Irons, with other executives filling in the gaps such as Karim Virani.
Even Virani's role as CEO is interim, so that could be another change that is on the horizon.
There is nothing stable right now about West Ham United, and with Nickson's appointment even in doubt, that could take them another step backwards.
Wrexham were also said to be interested in his hire, so it would speak volumes should he end up in Wales over the English capital.
Either way, changes are needed quickly or West Ham are going to be left behind by those around them in the race to get back to the Premier League immediately.
