West Ham United are busy preparing for a huge year, as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League.

The Irons were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season, despite beating Leeds 3-0.

With Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed to be staying on, the drama has certainly continued at the London Stadium.

David Sullivan has followed Karren Brady out of the boardroom, with significant changes still expected.

Steve Nickson could be one of those appointed, after his exit from Newcastle United was confirmed.

The recruitment chief looked set to leave Tynecastle for the capital, but now it could be Wales instead.

Steve Nickson hijack now on cards at West Ham

That is where Wrexham come into it.

Craig Hope has reported that a move to West Ham for Nickson isn't as straightforward as many believe.

The Daily Mail journalist states that sources insist that the Welsh club are interested in the 61-year-old, who could well end up there.

That is despite West Ham said to be offering a Director of Football role.

Nothing is confirmed, yet, however, so Nickson really could end up at either club, both fighting for Championship promotion.

Confusion at West Ham United

Before this update, everyone was basically saying that Nickson was a done deal and the hire was pretty much done.

That certainly isn't the case now.

Steve Nickson's impressive Newcastle business should have West Ham fans excited

West Ham need to raise a lot of money, around £150million to be precise, before they can even think about spending on transfers of their own, given the losses in recent years.

The positive is that they have the players to easily do that, like Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville.

Wrexham, on the other hand, have been spending big for years now, and that didn't stop under the likes of Ryan Reynolds last season.

If the Welsh club have more financial flexibility, could Nickson see that as a bigger opportunity?

It's not exactly a settled boardroom at the London Stadium, so let's hope that Sullivan hasn't left yet another negative thing behind him.

There's still twists to come around this appointment, and West Ham fans will just be desperate for some long-awaited good news.
