Ollie Scarles' West Ham contract examined as loan move on cards
Ollie Scarles is likely to leave West Ham United on loan next season.
The 20-year-old has featured 16 times this season, after Senegal star Malick El Hadji Diouf was signed in the summer.
Scarles has not found himself in Nuno Espirito Santo's plans as much as he would have liked, meaning that he could seek regular football shortly.
A report from The Athletic on 2 April mooted a loan move to an EFL club for the youngster, if the Hammers stay in the Premier League.
West Ham would benefit from such an agreement, if they are not in the Championship themselves for the 2026-27 season.
What is Scarles' contract situation at West Ham?
Scarles was expected to leave West Ham on loan this season, but such a move did not materialise, and he stayed put at the London Stadium.
His long-term future remains in East London, as he signed a long-term deal with the E20 club in September 2024.

That contract runs until the summer of 2028, although, the Irons have the option to extend that by a further year, which would be 2029.
What has Nuno said about Scarles?
Nuno clearly rates the young star, as he publicly defended him after the mistake against Fulham in December, which saw the Hammers drop a vital point.
Speaking to the media after the contest, he refused to single the defender out, when he could have bashed him, saying: “We all make mistakes, it’s not about individuals.
"It’s about how we can react as a team when we have an important game in two days.”
That suggests that he wanted to take the heat off Scarles, and not put him under too much pressure.
Why a loan would suit all parties
A loan move seems to be the best outcome for all parties, as Scarles would gain much more, in terms of his development as a senior player.
He would be better off playing a full campaign in the second-tier, rather than being stuck on the bench most weeks with the Hammers.
Then he would come back to his boyhood club ready to make a strong impression on Nuno and challenge Diouf for a place in the starting line-up.
It would not be a surprise to see him exit temporarily when the transfer market reopens, but given the length left on his contract, he is clearly a part of the future for the three-time FA Cup winners.
