West Ham United set to sign Wes Foderingham after ‘traumatic’ experience
Dan Bardell believes Wes Foderingham is needed at West Ham United despite a confidence-knocking spell with Sheffield United last season.
The goalkeeper has moved closer to completing a deal to the London Stadium with Fabrizio Romano reporting a medical is booked (20 June).
The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract expired at the end of the season with the Blades after they were relegated.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes he could be a useful squad player next season after a tough campaign.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “He’ll purely be for backup. He had a very difficult season with Sheffield United last year which wasn’t necessarily his fault, they were not in a good state at all.
“I can’t imagine that his confidence is very high at the moment and he will probably welcome a move to a Premier League club to be back up and watch from a distance.
“It must have been traumatic being in goal for Sheffield United last season. He’s a decent goalkeeper who is lacking in confidence.
“He will be the second or third choice at West Ham, it’s a good move for him and you could argue the club needs to make these kinds of signings.“
Wes Foderingham medical booked before West Ham move
A deal that is set to go through at the same time as the Englishman is the departure of Nathan Trott from West Ham.
This will leave a gap in the Hammers squad that will need filling with Premier League clubs wanting at least three goalkeepers available.
The Bermudan is set to join Copenhagen on a permanent deal having spent the last two seasons in Denmark with Vejle Boldklub.
He has only ever played once for the Hammers but with Lukasz Fabianski coming towards the end of his career, Foderingham could be a useful addition.

He suffered in between the sticks at Bramall Lane last season as they finished rock bottom of the Premier League without a whimper.
The Englishman conceded 79 goals in 30 starts [FotMob] which is a pretty terrible return, although he wasn’t afforded much defensive support.
It isn’t an exciting deal for Hammers fans but is a squad option which could prove to be necessary.
