West Ham United hierarchy hailed for new transfer developments after recent criticism
Frank McAvennie believes the West Ham owners deserve plaudits for the new additions to Julen Lopetegui’s squad despite the recent criticism at the club.
David Sullivan and Karren Brady have been in the firing line over the last few weeks due to the Hammers’ new ticket prices being shared ahead of the 2024/24 campaign, which claimed to be pushing families away.
Despite this, there has still been excitement building around the London Stadium, especially as Lopetegui continues to build his new squad before the 30 August transfer deadline.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “You’ve got Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, and now there’s Niclas Fullkrug up front, with Crysencio Summerville arriving. This could be a great season for West Ham.
“We criticise the owners a lot, and I had a wee go at them for putting the concessions up for the supporters – I didn’t like that. But, you’ve got to put your hands up and say, ‘Hold on a minute, these guys are bringing some wonderful talent to the London Stadium’.
“Supporters are now thinking they’re going to enjoy watching West Ham this season.”
West Ham United owners deserve plaudits for recent investments
While the excitement around the new transfers is just a smoke screen for the fans angry about the new ticket prices, it is certainly working for the owners this summer.
Cash has been splashed on positions all over the field, none more so than in defence, with Max Kilman, bought from Wolves for £40million [BBC Sport] and Jean Clair-Todibo joining on an initial loan before a mandatory £34million price tag [BBC Sport].

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has also arrived at the London Stadium on a £15million deal from Manchester United [Sky Sports], showing that the funds being raised at the club are being well-spent.
The pressure is now on Lopetegui to produce positive results on the pitch, and if that begins to go wrong, attention could definitely turn back to the owners and their behind-the-scenes decisions.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are set to beat Brighton to a £17million signing before Aug 30.
