West Ham owners unhappy with ‘damning’ Luis Guilherme development amid loan update

Luis Guilherme has had a tough spell at West Ham since signing last summer.

Guilherme, 19, joined West Ham from Palmerias in a highly anticipated move at the London Stadium after months of speculation in E20.

This saw Guilherme be a key addition for Tim Steidten at West Ham before the German was ultimately moved on in February after two and a half years.

It is fair to say that under both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, the Brazilian has failed to settle in and truly impress in claret and blue.

As a result, a loan departure for Guilherme could make sense, although this may be put on hold by a frustrated David Sullivan and Co., with just days remaining in the window.

David Sullivan annoyed by Luis Guilherme treatment at West Ham

There is no hiding away from the fact that the teenager has failed to live up to the hype since moving from South America to East London.

Guilherme is said to have picked up an injury at West Ham, which has played a part in hampering any further progress in claret and blue.

Luis Guilherme had a difficult debut season at West Ham

This saw the forward miss out on the squad for the opening home game of the campaign as West Ham lost 5-1 against Chelsea in humiliating fashion.

With that being said, the treatment of the young winger wasn’t truly any better under Potter before he picked up this latest issue.

As a result, a loan exit could benefit all parties this summer, but former Hammers midfielder Allen believes this would be halted by the board at the London Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “With the fact that Summerville should be fit in the next few weeks, I’m sure he’s going to take up a position on the wing.

What will happen to Guilherme? He cost £25m, he’s only 18 and isn’t even making it into the matchday squad.

That’s pretty damning and will be disappointing for him and the owners.

A loan out could be a solution, it will be something that is looked at. If he doesn’t do well, however, that £25m they spend could be worth nothing.

The owners won’t be happy with that, they need a return, and that hasn’t happened with him yet.

Luis Guilherme has to step up after injury

After West Ham lost Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham, there was hope that the ex-Palmerias man could fill that void if given more minutes.

That hasn’t been possible at the start of the season due to injury, but that could prove to be the perfect storm for Guilherme to find his feet when he returns.

If Potter can find a space for him as a regular within the squad, there is every chance that he could flourish moving deeper into the campaign.

Having watched Estavao Willian shine at the London Stadium for Chelsea, there is no reason that the Irons’ equivalent can’t do the same thing, but in claret and blue.

This won’t be easy for him, but Potter has to give him the platform to do so or risk bothering Sullivan in the coming weeks and months.
