Pundit urges David Moyes to stay at West Ham United and ignore Celtic links
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has urged David Moyes to stay at West Ham for next season and ignore links to Celtic, because his style of play won’t suit them.
Moyes became only the third West Ham boss to win a trophy thanks to a 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final, and is now expected to stay on as manager next season after reports he could leave if they lost.
The former Manchester United boss was even linked with the vacant job at boyhood club Celtic after Ange Postecoglou took over at Tottenham, but McAvennie believes Moyes should stick around and get the league form right rather than go somewhere that he’ll be expected to move away from his usual brand of football.

“I don’t know if he’ll stay,” he told West Ham Zone.
“I don’t know what the situation is because he’s made a name for himself and rightly or wrongly he’s put himself up there with the greats.
“I’m so glad for David Moyes. But for me, at Celtic? I’ve not seen him let them play yet, or take the brakes off any team.
“Good team at Everton, but it was a good team that defended well and fought, and hit people on the break. That’s not Celtic.
“You see them the other night, they’ve got really good players at West Ham. I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“I think he deserves another crack at it at the start of the season, but if he goes 10-12 games playing the way they have in the league, the fans will not have it.

“It’s a shame, but it’s his own doing. It’s the way he plays and the way his teams play. They’ve just got too many players to not play.
“Maybe with the players at Celtic he could go and attack, I don’t know. At the moment and the way they’re playing in the league [I wouldn’t have him at Celtic].
“David deserves a dozen games anyway (with West Ham). He’s been in the game for years and he knows it’s a results driven business, and he’s done it for West Ham so it’s even better.”
