David Sullivan ready to do deal as West Ham United want Eddie Nketiah transfer

West Ham interest in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is likely “just talk” but David Sullivan is always willing to do a deal, Frank McAvennie has said.

Nketiah has long been linked with a move to the Hammers and talkSPORT reported (26 June) that the Gunners want £50million for the 25-year-old.

Charles Watt, writing for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing on 2 July, believes the fee is an overestimate because interested parties, including West Ham, would baulk at that price.

McAvennie, speaking to West Ham Zone, is inclined to agree that the fee would be too high but said he would love to see a player of Nketiah’s calibre move to the London Stadium.

“I think it (£50m fee) might be too high but you never know with David Sullivan, he’s always willing to do a deal,” he said.

“I think it’s just talk, I really do. We’re always going to buy this player or that player and we never get any of them.

“I think the fans are just a wee bit wary of that but we’ll see how it goes. He’s the kind of player I’d love to see at West Ham I’d love to see him there.”

West Ham to seal Eddie Nketiah transfer?

It seems pretty evident that the Irons want to add a striker to their ranks with season, especially with Michail Antonio in the twilight of his career and Danny Ings facing an uncertain future.

But, having just splashed out a significant fee for centre-back Max Kilman, it is hard to imagine they will get anywhere near spending £50m on Nketiah.

West Ham want to sign Eddie Nketiah

The addition of Nketiah would be an excellent one for the Hammers because they don’t have many options for that central striker role.

If a deal is to be done, though, you get the feeling that the asking price will have to be lowered and pretty significantly.
