Frank McAvennie thinks there is very little chance of Mohammed Kudus now leaving West Ham this summer after an update on his release clause emerged.

Sean Whetstone shared on his personal X account (2 July) that the Ghana forward, 23, previously had an £85million release clause in his contract that expired on midnight on 1 July.

It had been reported by Caught Offside (28 June) that Premier League duo Manchester City and Liverpool, and Saudi big-spenders Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli were interested in making a move for Kudus - who only moved to the Hammers from Ajax last summer.

But McAvennie, speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, does not see any club paying huge sums for Kudus and is delighted by the news he is more than likely going to be staying put at the London Stadium.

"No one's going to come in and pay that kind of money he's only had one season really hasn't he?" he said.

"I'm delighted with that, there's nothing happening with (Lucas) Paqueta yet, so him, Paqueta, (Jarrod) Bowen.

"Some of these players I'm looking forward to next season now and seeing how this new manager will set us up, so I'm delighted with that I'm looking forward to it big time."

Kudus made a great impression during his first season for the Irons, scoring 14 goals across all competitions.

The lingering fear over his release clause this summer was causing a bit of angst but it always felt unlikely any club would trigger it before the expiration date.

It means the Hammers are in a great position of strength if any club does try and make a move for him now and it feels highly unlikely they will be pressured into selling.

Should he have another excellent campaign it might be more difficult to fend off interested parties next summer but for now it looks as though Kudus is going to remain a Hammer, which is excellent news.
