David Sullivan has to pay ‘huge’ fee to sack Julen Lopetegui at ‘miserable’ West Ham United
Dan Bardell believes West Ham must stick by Julen Lopetegui considering the compensation they would have to pay to sack him.
The Spaniard completed a move to the London Stadium over the summer but has already come under pressure after a difficult start to the season.
The Hammers secured a 4-1 win against Ipswich Town on Saturday 5 October which has eased some of the complaints towards the manager.
And Sky Sports journalist Bardell sees the Irons sticking by the manager for financial reasons after registering a home win.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “West Ham have just got to start winning football matches, they just seem to be a miserable club.
“I think they’ve had some good times over the last five or six years but it doesn’t feel like that right now.
“I didn’t think Lopetegui was a great appointment at the time even though he carries some weight and pedigree.
“Right now he isn’t playing winning football but I don’t think they can just rip everything up at the start of the season. They’ve probably got to give him time and stick by him.
“There’d be a huge compensation, it would cost West Ham a lot to get rid of him. Fans are just going to have to grin and bare the next few months and see what happens.“
West Ham urged to stick by Julen Lopetegui
It has been far from a dream start for the ex-Real Madrid boss in East London after excitement built throughout the summer.
With the likes of Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman coming in, supporters had high hopes for the campaign.
This anticipation has come crashing back down to earth after a slow and boring start to the season which saw the Irons win just one in the opening six games.
The dury isn’t completely out against Lopetegui with some fans giving him the benefit of the doubt and wanting the Spaniard to have more time.

This opinion has only been echoed after the Irons were helped to a healthy win against Ipswich with Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta getting on the scoresheet.
