West Ham not signing Jesse Lingard may have been blessing in disguise
West Ham may be delighted looking at Jesse Lingard’s recent performance for Manchester United against Young Boys in the Champions League.
The England international did not start the game for the Manchester outfit, but came off the bench for Cristiano Ronaldo and ended up costing his side the game.
In the 95th minute, without any real pressure, he played a careless back pass for David De Gea which did not reach the Spaniard, but instead found Jordan Siebatcheu, who slotted the ball home to give the Swiss side a big win against the 2007/08 CL winners.
Since coming on, Lingard looked nervy and felt like he let the occasion get the better of him.
He struggled to get involved and make things happen for his side and capped it off with a rather disappointing pass which was almost like an assist for the opposition.
The Hammers were in pursuit of the attacker all summer after impressing on loan for them last season.
However, that very well could’ve been a purple patch as his performance for Manchester United was a classic throwback to the Lingard of old times.
Also, given the fact that he’ll be 30 in two years, it was wise that the Hammers went for someone younger in Nikola Vlasic.
Hopefully, he keeps improving like he did in Russia and ends up being a vital signing for the Hammers.
As for Lingard, West Ham may stop considering him as an option if such performances repeat in the future.
