Tim Steidten on red alert at West Ham United as new Ademola Lookman transfer update shared
There may be plenty of uncertainty at West Ham United currently, but the Irons will already have one eye on the January transfer window.
Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui spent heavily in the summer and while that is likely to leave the Hammers with little to spend mid-season, there is an expectation the right offer could tempt the Irons into the market.
As a result of Niclas Fullkrug’s injury woes since arriving at the London Stadium this summer, reports suggest Lopetegui would be interested in adding some more attacking talent to his ranks sooner rather than later [GiveMeSport, 25 October].
Will Ademola Lookman exit Atalanta amid West Ham transfer rumours?
One star who has reportedly been the subject of behind-the-scenes discussions is Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, with senior figures at West Ham considering launching a move [GiveMeSport, 27 October].
Although it is unclear whether or not a move to East London would interest the former Everton man, a new update from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg will have put Steidten and the Irons on red alert.
Writing on X on Thursday (7 November) Plettenberg said: “Ademola Lookman, one to watch for the winter transfer window.
“At the latest by summer, he plans to take the next step.”
While Plettenberg’s latest update isn’t confirmation that Lookman would be interested in moving to the London Stadium, the Nigerian international does appear to be ready to call time on his spell with Atalanta.
If that truly is the case, the Irons have as good a chance as any of their Premier League rivals when it comes to trying to secure his signature.
Whether or not a deal is doable in January remains unclear. If money is tight when the new year rolls around, Steidten and his recruitment team may instead explore a deal for the former Fulham man next summer.
Either way, it seems as though Lookman is set to leave Atalanta in the coming months so it will be interesting to see whether or not West Ham make a genuine move for his services when the time comes.
