West Ham United are monitoring Chivas striker Armando Gonzalez, according to reports.

Despite Nuno Espirito Santo splashing out just shy of £50million on Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe in January, the Hammers are on the hunt for more depth up front.

Gonzalez, 22, has been in scintillating form in Mexico this season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions - most of those coming in 2026 - and a host of clubs are unsurprisingly weighing up making a move.

West Ham want to sign him, but they will face heavyweight competition for his signature.

How much will Armando Gonzalez cost West Ham?

Gonzalez's heroics have seen him capped four times by the Mexican international team, but he could well find himself leaving his homeland over the coming months.

That is because both Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are considering bidding in the summer, according to Estadio Deportes, while three other clubs are keeping tabs on him.

West Ham are among that group, alongside AC Milan and Feyenoord, but have not decided on whether to approach. At this stage, the trio are simply evaluating his performances.

Interest in Gonzalez was formalised by a bid from Russia several weeks ago, with CSKA Moscow offering around $20m (£15m) to try to tempt him to leave Chivas.

However, this proposal was rejected, making clear the ace's wishes to move to a more competitive league in Europe. That, of course, leaves the door open for the Hammers.

In a further boost to decision-makers at the London Stadium, Gonzalez has a release clause worth £15m in his contract, making him an affordable target.

Do West Ham need Gonzalez?

Whether Nuno needs another frontman is another question.

Castellanos has enjoyed a bright start to life in East London, scoring three goals in his 12 appearances to date, while Pablo impressed up top against Brentford in the FA Cup.

The goals aren't quite there yet for the latter, but they will surely come. Statistics have also proven that Felipe is one of Europe's deadliest strikers in comparison to other U23 rivals.

However, signings that would elevate West Ham to the next level will always be welcomed, and Gonzalez could perhaps do just that, provided Barcelona don't snap him up first.
