West Ham: Kaelan Casey’s contract examined ahead of return from Leyton Orient

West Ham United allowed Kaelan Casey to switch to Leyton Orient in January.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Swansea City due to a lack of minutes in South West Wales.

He was very honest in his assessment of his spell at the Swansea.com stadium, as he said playing regular football was his priority.

That led him to another East London outfit as he moved to the O’s on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign.

Casey has featured more for Orient, but now is set for a London Stadium return as we assess what we know about his current deal.

What is Kaelan Casey’s contract situation at West Ham?

The Englishman may have moved to Brisbane Road in search of consistent football, but didn’t necessarily get it under Ritchie Wellens.

Despite only avoiding relegation by three points, the Irons loanee was never a guaranteed starter and made plenty of appearances as a substitute.

There have been some encouraging signs with his performances, but struggling for games in League One doesn’t paint a great picture.

That will raise question marks ahead of his claret and blue return, although is contract is safe given his current deal runs until the summer of 2027.

He penned a new four-year deal in August 2023 and is reportedly paid around £2500 per week as part of that equating to a yearly salary in the region of £130,000.

Casey could do well when he returns to West Ham, but it could all hinge on what division the Hammers find themselves in next season.

Will Casey stay at West Ham beyond this summer?

It feels increasingly likely that the claret and blue outfit are going to be playing their football in the Championship in the new campaign.

That will almost certainly lead to a mass overhaul in E20 over the summer, where various big earners will move on.

As frustrating as that could prove to be, it may leave the door open for someone like Casey to step up and fill a hole in the squad in the second tier.

He has already made appearances in the Championship, so he knows the division somewhat, so could prove to be a useful asset.

It will certainly be interesting to see where his future lies as his future will be assessed in the coming weeks and months.
