West Ham player ratings vs Brentford – Taty Castellanos excellent as El Hadji Malick Diouf dismal

West Ham United succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

The result leaves Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side in a dangerous position in terms of the relegation battle, as Tottenham could now overtake them with a victory over Aston Villa.

The G-Tech Community Stadium clash on 2 May left the Hammers sitting on 36 points, two ahead of the N17 outfit.

The hosts took the lead with an own goal from Konstantinos Mavropanos, an Igor Thiago penalty and a Mikkel Damsgaard strike, which sealed the game.

West Ham could not respond, and will now wait with bated breath for Spurs’ result against the Villans.

Taty Castellanos brilliant despite West Ham loss

Taty Castellanos put in one of his best West Ham performances, but unfortunately, he could not mark it with a goal.

The Argentine striker had only 26 touches in the contest, but he still excelled as he made his impact felt for Nuno’s side in a superb display.

He had the most shots in the game with five, the joint-most touches in the opposition box with six and hit the woodwork twice, per Fotmob.

He also made two passes into the final third, and created one chance for his teammates, but could not ultimately help to get the ball in the back of the net.

Castellanos is finally looking like the player the Hammers hoped they were signing, and he could play a big part as the relegation battle reaches a conclusion.

El Hadji Malick Diouf dismal in West Ham defeat

El Hadji Malick Diouf has earned admirers for his West Ham performances this season, but the clash with the Bees was not his finest hour.

He created one chance for his teammates and had one shot on target, but his attacking contributions pretty much ended there in a dismal display.

He completed just one of the four crosses that he attempted for a 25 per cent success rate, and it was the same story with his long balls.
