West Ham have survival recipe all along as Callum Wilson and Tomas Soucek experience indispensible
West Ham United keep on trudging through games as they look to keep themselves in the Premier League this season.
There has been a lot of chopping and changing, and even dipping into the transfer market to find the right blend for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
While Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes have been clear standouts for their performances, the recipe to staying in the top flight may not have lied with them.
Tomas Soucek and Callum Wilson were Irons heroes on Saturday, with their two goals pushing West Ham to a 2-1 win.
However, for West Ham’s relegation battle, they may be more impactful than anyone ever imagined.

How Tomas Soucek and Callum Wilson have had more impact than imagined at West Ham
Wilson and Soucek are the oldest outfield players at West Ham, and their experience has come up trumps for the Hammers.
While their goals against Everton were key, it is not the first time they have impacted their side positively this season.
| Percentage share of West Ham’s goals in the Premier League this season | Total |
| Jarrod Bowen | 23.8% |
| Callum Wilson | 14% |
| Crysencio Summerville, Tomas Soucek | 11.9% |
In fact, the duo have contributed to 28 per cent of the total goals scored this season by the E20 outfit.
This season, the pair have often been cast on the outside, but through their experience, they have still pushed their way into positions to keep West Ham up.
Throughout the campaign, Soucek has started just 20 matches, with Wilson only starting 10. To have contributed to over one quarter of goals scored in such limited time is simply remarkable.
Putting trust in experienced players to drag you out of a relegation dogfight was the obvious solution, and it is working tremendously so far.

West Ham are a different side since last game against Brentford
If the Hammers are to continue to push their way up the points tally, they will need to do so against Brentford, a side they already lost to in the league this season.
However, since that match, a lot has changed within the Hammers’ setup as well as West Ham’s form dramatically trending upwards.
In Nuno’s side to face Everton, only five players who started against the Toffees were in the starting lineup against Brentford in October.
It will be a totally new test for Brentford manager Keith Andrews, and the Irons must use that to their advantage. Soucek and Wilson could be key once more.
