West Ham get ‘last thing they want to see’ ahead of crucial Arsenal clash
West Ham United may be even less likely to beat Arsenal this weekend.
The Hammers need three points and a favour from Tottenham to escape the relegation zone, as the season grinds towards a conclusion.
Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side host the Gunners on 10 May, and Mikel Arteta’s side are chasing double glory, in the Premier League and Champions League.
Mikel Arteta’s side’s chase for two trophies may well end up being extra motivation for the North Londoners.
West Ham need a positive result at the London Stadium, despite the level of the opposition.

Why Arsenal’s win over Atletico gives less hope for West Ham
Arsenal’s victory against Atletico Madrid could hamper West Ham’s survival chances even further.
Sky Sports reporter Chris Reidy shared the verdict from the training ground ahead of the contest, saying: “The last thing West Ham wanted to see were those Arsenal celebrations and the performance against Atletico Madrid.
“They looked so confident and so much pressure was relieved.
“They come to London Stadium now, and I guess the thing for West Ham now is it’s not in their hands after so many previous favours from Tottenham.”

The Hammers probably could have done with the Emirates Stadium outfit being down in the dumps after being knocked out of the tournament.
What is West Ham’s recent record vs Arsenal?
West Ham have had positive results in four of their last seven matches against the title contenders, which provides some sort of hope for the clash.
The first meeting of that spell in April 2023 ended with a 2-2 draw, with Jarrod Bowen scoring a second-half equaliser.
Then the Hammers secured two victories, a 3-1 Carabao Cup win in November 2023, before a 2-0 league win at the Emirates the following month.
| West Ham’s recent record vs Arsenal | Competition | Result |
| April 2023 | Premier League | 2-2 (D) |
| November 2023 | Carabao Cup | 3-1 (W) |
| December 2023 | Premier League | 2-0 (W) |
| February 2024 | Premier League | 6-0 (L) |
| November 2024 | Premier League | 5-2 (L) |
| February 2025 | Premier League | 1-0 (W) |
| October 2025 | Premier League | 2-0 (L) |
They were then hammered 6-0 and 5-2 in the league in February 2024 and November 2024, before a 1-0 away win in February 2025.
The latest meeting between the sides was a 2-0 defeat on the road for the E20 outfit in October 2025, with a Declan Rice strike and a Bukayo Saka penalty.
Given the positivity surrounding the Gunners that Reidy highlighted, and the negative feelings around Rush Green, it seems like a difficult task for Nuno’s side.
However, their record in recent years gives faith that they can pull off a miracle and potentially take a step closer to survival.
Whether that happens remains to be seen, but the North London side have confidence and momentum on their side, and will be looking to enhance their chances of a famous double.
